Am I eligible for an Australian Skilled Migrant Visa?
To be eligible for general skilled migration to Australia, you must score at least 65 points in the Points Test. Points are awarded on the following criteria:
Age: You must be under the age of 50 when you apply.
English language: You need to have sufficient English language skills for working in Australia. Note: a higher level of English is required for certain occupations.
Qualifications: You must have post-secondary (such as university or trade) qualifications and your skills must be assessed by the relevant assessing authority. Visa First can organise this for you.
Nominated occupation: When you apply for your Australian Skilled Migrant Visa you must nominate a skilled occupation from the Skilled Occupations List which fits your skills and qualifications.
Specific work experience: You must provide evidence that you’ve been in paid employment in your skilled occupation for at least 12 of the 24 months prior to your application.

Skilled Occupations List (SOL) To qualify for an Australian Skilled Independent Visa you must nominate an occupation from the SOL, which is broken down into four main categories:
Managers and administrators
Professionals
Associate professionals
Tradespersons
Skills Assessment For this Australian Work Visa you need to have a minimum of 900 hours of formal training in order to have your skills assessed through a recognised body like FAS or City & Guilds. This is expected to change shortly to allow for on-the-job experience to be recognised.
